Tony Rice is widely regarded as the premier rhythm guitarist in bluegrass history. In this class we will be dissecting many aspects of Rice's acclaimed rhythmic style. Specific chord voicings, downstroke-upstroke patterns, cross-picking, and substitution patterns will be shown in the Rice style. Special attention will be given to Rice's rhythm guitar recordings on Manzanita, Cold on the Shoulder, and Mar West.
The class is formulated to give the average guitarist a comprehensive look into the stylistic techniques of Rice. Folk School Instructor Andy Novara has been studying the Rice style since his early teenage years, has attended master classes with Rice himself, and has transcribed a book of Rice solos for publication.
