Old Time Guitar: Parallels between Carter Scratch and a Flat Pick

*Old Time Guitar will be offered as a 6-week online course using the platform Zoom. Instructions for using Zoom will be sent upon registration**

Let's explore bass runs and chord melody in old time guitar.
We'll dive in to some techniques to free your right hand. I'll teach the basics of Carter Scratch style and then we'll grab our flat picks and see how these two approaches can, in many ways, be very similar. With a flat pick this allows us to think of downstrokes as thumb strokes and upstrokes as finger strokes. I'll present some tunes and songs, starting with the basic chords structure. Then we will look at some approaches to bass figures and walk-ups, as well as adding the melody into the equation.

Prerequisites: should know the first position chords. Should be able to strum the guitar with a flat pick.
