Roots/Blues Guitar Toolbox w/ Steve James
Saturday, March 24, 12-2pm
Folk School of KDHX, 3323 Washington Ave
$40 or FREE w/ Folk & Roots Festival Pass
This “hands-on” workshop will concentrate on melodic fingerstyle and slide guitar arrangements that use techniques and tunings, harmonic and rhythmic devices essential to the blues sound. Steve will start the session by demonstrating a variety of guitar pieces, both classic and original, and answering preliminary questions. The main part of the program will be devoted to a detailed “break down” of a couple of these themes with the whole group playing as they learn them. The workshop will conclude with more “Q and A”, plus a review demonstration for those who would like to turn on their sound recording devices. Some tab/handouts will be supplied. Bring a guitar, accessories and a notebook.
In addition to decades of performing, touring and recording experience, STEVE JAMES
has always had a commitment to sharing the musical styles and techniques he has absorbed through long experience and his meetings with roots music originators like Furry Lewis and Sam McGee. Steve is a veteran of hundreds of music camps and guitar workshop programs and has created print, video and on-line instruction programs for String Letter/Acoustic Guitar and Homespun. His latest book of guitar instruction, “Roots and Blues Guitar Explorations” is set for publication in 2018.
