Matt McGibany

 

 

 

Matt McGibany is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing for 28 years and teaching private and group lessons for 15 years. He began learning guitar at the age of 14 and started a performing career by the age of 17. At the age of 25, Matt found a new musical passion in the fiddle, following in the footsteps of his grandfather “Lazy Joe” Gewnwell. He has studied regularly acclaimed fiddlers Jason Carter of the Del McCoury band, long time Nashville session musician Buddy Spicher, and most notably spent the last 16 years under the continuous tutelage of 10-time Grammy winner and Hall of Fame fiddler Bobby Hicks. Matt has taught side by side with Hicks at his private camps as well as shared the stage with him and the aforementioned fiddlers at various festivals, camps, and shows. Matt has a kind and fun demeanor as well as a very patient and understanding teaching process that makes learning from him fun.
