Matt McGibany

 

 

Matt McGibany began his musical education at age 14 on the guitar. After beginning his performance career at age 16 he spent the next 8 years learning hands on in local and regional bands. At age 25 Matt began his journey into roots music with fiddle playing. He has studied under some of the greats including: Bobby Hicks, Jason Carter, Buddy Spicher and Casey Driessen as well as local fiddler Paul Tinnon. Matt honed his teaching abilities along side Bobby Hicks at Bobby's bluegrass fiddle camps in North Carolina, Illinois and Texas. He has been teaching guitar, mandolin and fiddle for the past 6 years privately and in group settings. 

In addition to teaching he has performed with local band Lazy Joe named after Matt's grandfather Lazy Joe Greenwell also a bandleader, fiddler and country radio DJ), members of Cumberland Gap, and various other St. Louis area bands. Currently he performs with The Five and Dimers (chosen for the top ten "best of" albums of 2011 by 3 kdhx DJ's), as well as Alone and Dying and his own band Blu Skies (in which Matt writes all of the original music).
