Blues Mandolin

**Blues Mandolin will be offered as a 6-week online course using the platform Zoom. Instructions for using Zoom will be sent upon registration**

This class will dive into some of the neglected aspects of old-time and bluegrass roots music. The prevalence of African-American blues traditions and song forms is an essential part of study for any student of American roots music. In this class we will be looking in particular to mandolin driven rural string bands. After taking this class the student should have a healthy knowledge of particular African American String band musicians who predated bluegrass by decades. Rhythmic backup, use of tremolo, blues notes, and ornamentation will also be covered. Specific musicians include Al Miller, Joe McCoy, Yank Rachel, and others. This class will be a tab/and video class so nothing is lost to the student in translation. This is a limited session offering.
