Lisa Gilbert draws on a rich background as a musician and professional educator. Specific to the traditional music of Quebec, she had the good fortune to live in Montreal for three years, where she immersed herself in the city’s thriving traditional music scene. In addition to absorbing the tradition directly by playing in multiple sessions every week, she took podorhythmie classes at the Societe pour la promotion de la danse traditionelle quebecoise (now EspaceTrad) and served as assistant stage manager for La Grande Rencontre, Quebec’s premier traditional music festival. Lisa is also the grateful recipient of the Fred Kaspar Memorial Scholarship to attend the Boxwood Festival and Workshop in Nova Scotia. Prior to joining the Folk School, she has taught for Siamsa, Montreal’s School of Irish Music, as well as St. Louis Irish Arts, and has served as a judge for the Missouri Fiddlers and Country Music Association Contest (Old-Time) and the St. Louis Winterfeis (Irish).
