Jeffrey Hughes
Simply put Jeffrey is Genuine, Diverse and Passionate. Students and people in general can always find him in great spirits and with a smile on his face. A Leukemia survivor from
in his Early 20's, Jeffrey brings his passion for life into all he does, especially his music. He has been playing and studying guitar since the age of 13. His training has been predominantly through private instruction with some of St. Louis' finest guitarists and self education. Jeffrey is a current working musician in the STL scene who goes by JD Hughes. He has gained valuable practical experience from performing in different arrangements over the years and puts this into his teaching approach to provide a useful and practical approach to learning the guitar. Aside from his current performing schedule, Jeffrey teaches privately from his home studio.

Jeffrey's teaching approach is based on the individual, not a preset path that must be followed. No one person learns the same, plays the same, or lives the same so he believes in respecting that truth instead of forcing his students into a box with their playing or learning. Don't take that the wrong way though, learning and performing any instrument takes diligence, determination, and discipline. It is extremely rewarding though and can provide much confidence for children, camaraderie for adults, and sheer joy for all! Whatever is being taught to the student always will be tied into the basic theory and understanding of the world's most universal language: MUSIC!

Jeffrey's playing style can be stated as genuine and soulful. Tasty and melodic. Less is more sometimes. Successfully tapping into almost any genre Jeffrey has become known as a diverse player in the St. Louis music scene. Genres that the aspiring student can expect to learn include Solo Fingerpicking, Basic Country and Bluegrass, Latin, Jazz, Blues, Swing, Gypsy Jazz, Rock, Metal, Funk, Jam, Fusion, Reggae, and Folk/Singer- Songwriter. He has graced many stages in this city such as U. City Jazz Fest, St. Louis Public Library, Joe's Cafe, The Sheldon Concert Hall, The Broadway Oyster Bar, 2720 Cherokee, KDHX's The Stage, The Bootleg, Foam, and frequently plays many STL restaurants, wineries, private parties, and corporate events.

Jeffrey has been thankful to grace the stage, collaborate, and befriend many fabulous musicians throughout his 18 years of playing. He plays or has played with The JD Hughes Group, Farshid Etniko, Dave Black, Philip Gomez and Clave Sol, Acoustik Element, Big Brother Thunder and The Master Blasters, Members of the Schwag, and countless others.
