In this fiddle workshop, we will concentrate on a view of simple tunes and how to approach traditional ear learning. Tops on bowing will also be demonstrated. This workshop is mainly for intermediate players.
Fiddlin Banjo Billy Mathews has been playing and teaching a new generation the old-time fiddle tunes he has learned and composed in his time traveling in the Mid-West and Upper South.
Thoughtful musical kin-ships maintained throughout all these many years have earned him a considerable amount of notoriety and recognition throughout old-time traditional music circles. Billy has many recordings available for listening and has finalized this 500 Fiddle tunes project. The project consists of recordings of 501 fiddle tunes and an accompanying book that has been transcribed by Emily Elam.
Billy continues to collect and play a huge repertoire of old-time fiddle tunes. He has already made a sizable and significant contribution to our American musical culture and there is no end in sight!
