From bluegrass and old-time to jazz and swing, folk music is the music of the people. It’s more than just “Kumbaya” and “This Land is Your Land." It’s at the heart of all genres of popular music, from rock and pop to modern country. Founded in 2001, the Folk School of St. Louis is dedicated to renewing and expanding traditional music and the folk arts in St. Louis.
We offer classes, jams, lessons, and workshops for students of all ages, backgrounds, skill levels, and interests, including bluegrass, old-time, Irish, country, blues, jazz, jug band, and more! Through these shared musical experiences, the Folk School is building a community of musicians working together to strengthen and preserve our musical heritage. The Folk School offers opportunities for students to gather both informally and formally to make, enjoy, and celebrate music.
Our Mission
The mission of the Folk School of St. Louis is to build community by providing educational programs that promote the learning, teaching, renewal, and perpetuation of traditional music and folk arts.
