The Folk School teaches fiddle in the traditional by-ear style. Our core Fiddle curriculum includes Fiddle 1 through Fiddle 3. Students may repeat Fiddle 3 several times until comfortable with method, technique, and repertoire. Fiddle 3 is a good place to start for intermediate or advanced classical violinists. Once you've graduated Fiddle 3, students are encouraged to take advantage of the Fiddle Repertoire Class where you can hone skills and become comfortable with by-ear transmission of fiddle tunes. Also available to Fiddle 3 graduates are Ensemble 1 (your first chance to play along with other instruments) and Fiddle 4. Look for rotating advanced and genre-specific fiddle classes and ensembles on the schedule.
