The Folk School Grand Celebration was truly a grand event! The night was full of spirit and magic as two impressive duos took the stage. Kevin Buckley and Ian Walsh kicked off the evening with an inspired set full of rousing Irish jigs and thoughtful vocal renditions of familiar songs. These two talented musicians have been playing together since they were in their single digits and it shows on stage!
Following Kevin and Ian was the Pokey LaFarge and Ryan Spearman Duo. These two nationally known local boys enchanted the crowd and showed their musical strength in a set that has been referred to as "magical", "unequalled" and "phenomenal".
What an honor for the Folk School to be represented by such fine artists. The homage that was paid to traditional music while showcasing it's evolution was a true example of folk music.

I'm excited to announce the 2nd Annual Folk School Fiddle Contest on Sunday, September 9 at Strauss Park in Grand Center!
This is an event near and dear to my heart. We started the fiddle contest last year and it was a great success. It was exciting to watch fiddlers young and old carrying on a great Missouri tradition. I'm also thrilled every time the Folk School hosts an event that draws from outside our community and when new people become involved and get exposed to the world of traditional folk music.
I hold our mission at the forefront of every event, class, workshop, and concert that we host and I never want to lose sight of it. To promote the teaching, learning, renewal, and perpetuation of traditional folk music and arts is such an integral part of community and events like the fiddle contest create the wonderful juxtaposition of holding close to tradition while reaching out to new musicians and music fans.
It takes a village to build a folk school and that is evidenced every time we host a successful event. The organizes, volunteers, participants, and audience all play an important role. As I plan this fiddle contest, I'll be looking for volunteers, competing fiddlers, and a great audience to cheer them on! So, pick your part and let's make the 2nd Annual Folk School Fiddle Contest one to be remembered!
